10 Facts You Never Knew About Coffee

The next time you are at your favorite coffee shop and someone catches your eye, here are ten interesting coffee facts that you can use to break the ice:

1) Coffee is considered an aphrodisiac. Because it contains a high dose of caffeine and other various alkaloids, studies have shown that coffee can increase stamina and the overall length of intimate sessions.

2) Although coffee has been a part of the Arab culture for thousands of years, it did not become part of the western world until the 1500s. Before that time, priests believed that coffee was a drink of the devil. Pope Clement VIII finally ended this line of thinking by taking a sip of coffee and then giving it his blessing.

3) Japan's official Coffee Day is October 1st.

4) A single acre of coffee trees can yield close to ten thousand pounds of coffee cherries. Once they are milled or hulled, there are still almost two thousand pounds of coffee beans.

5) Forty-nine of the fifty states grow absolutely no coffee. The only state that grows coffee is Hawaii. Additionally, the only United States territory that grows coffee is Puerto Rico.

6) Germany is the second largest coffee consumer in the world. Forty-three percent of Germans add sweetener to their coffee, while only twenty-seven percent of Americans (the number one consumer of coffee) use any kind of sweetener in their coffee.

7) The English word coffee is derived from the Latin word Coffea. Coffea is the Latin name for a genus of trees.

8) Every single one of the fifty-three countries that grows coffee is located along the equator, between the tropic of Cancer and Capricorn.

9) On average, people who purchase their coffee from drive-through windows before work will spend around forty-five hours every year waiting in line for their coffee.

10) Petroleum is the only product that is traded more heavily than coffee. The amount of coffee produced around the world is close to six million metric tonnes.

Your Coffee Machine Can Brew You Any Kind Of Coffee

There are many people who have for long considered themselves purists in the world of coffee, and wouldn't dream of touching this sacred brew. But all of this is changing now, coffee is being flavored and you can have any one of hundreds of kinds now.

Blenders are practically artists now, with exotic blends being designed all the time. There is an Indonesian blend which is a mix of Sumatran and Papua New Guinea beans that yields a flavorful full bodied brews. Newer regions such as Papua New Guinea and Sumatra are being scoured for new kinds of beans for these blends. Sumatra beans mixed with Colombian Patron gives a smoky, dark taste to the blend.

In addition to blending different beans, adding flavorings to coffee adds a new element. Many flavors, such as cherry, almond or vanilla, can soften the acidity of some blends. Add a banana hazelnut syrup to a plain robusta blend, and you have a whole new experience. Try a Tahitian vanilla latte for a real taste experience.

If mocha is the taste you prefer, you have almost as many chocolate flavors to choose from as you have coffee flavors. Try a Yemen roast with a light touch of dark chocolate melted and well blended into it. For a treat on the lighter side, do the same with Giradelli chocolate melted into and American roast blend. You can blend flavorings in with a blending machine, or whisk them in by hand.

There is no end to the concoctions you can come up with using your coffee machine or even just your one cup coffee maker. Besides using different beans, roasts or flavorings, try adding exotic liqueurs to your coffee.

Certain coffees lend themselves to certain ingredients. Try a Jamaican roast with fruits, brown sugar and rum added. You'll find that Costa Rican blend goes very well with an almond flavored liqueur.

Stronger than chocolate, cocoa also makes a great ingredient to cut the flavor of coffee. Making a drink that is hot or cold, you can easily blend coffee beans and coffee beans for a fabulous treat.

People who love to experiment with different tastes of coffee are aways coming up with new things. How about a frozen cappuccino on a hot summer day to wake you right up? Instead of plain chocolate, try chocolate mint in your next cup of coffee.

If you are one of the many who want a cup of decaf in the morning instead of the "real thing", even the strongest of coffees now come decaffeinated. You can choose from such exotic choices as Italian Espresso, Decaf Marrakesh and even a Dutchman (a blend of Indonesian, Central American and African).

When coffee aficionados talk about "nuttiness", that is not a compliment for coffee. But adding some nut or other ingredients such as raspberry or coconut to your coffee may be an interesting change. You may eventually want to go back to the basic cup of the coffee purist, but a little detour doesn't hurt once in a while.

Great Cappuccino

If you want to get a great cake for dessert, you would go to a bakery to get it wouldn't you? That is, unless you are a great baker yourself. So if you want to have the best coffee beans, shouldn't you go to a coffee bean baker? Well, perhaps they won't be called coffee bean bakers, but these specialty shops are in the business of baking coffee bean nice and fresh. If you have ever used freshly baked coffee beans in your cappuccino maker to make cappuccino, you will know what the fuss is about. Many of these stores are real specialty locations and employ skilled roasters who roast the beans by hand, ensuring consistency and perfection throughout.

This type of roasting is truly an art, and the specialists who do it consider themselves artists. Each coffee bean is examined for size, shape, color and density. Each of these factors will affect how the bean roasts. A larger bean needs to be roasted longer, for example. When each bean is treated individually in this way, the result is a perfect blend of flavor. You cannot compare a supermarket cake to a cake from a master baker; you cannot compare beans roasted individually with mass roasted beans.

These specialist coffee roasters also specialize in deep roasting. All coffees are roasted, but an expert coffee roaster will know the exact way to roast a particular bean so that every quality of the bean is brought out to its fullest extent. This method will bring out the most of the flavor of the bean while reducing its acidity. It results in a perfectly roasted bean and a perfect coffee, one that you can feel by its unique combination of smoothness and energy on your tongue.

The main secret of this is slow roasting. Slow roasting is more time consuming and therefore more expensive, but a master coffee roaster will watch over the beans he is roasting and make sure the process is unfolding as it should. A bean will not be over roasted since he is watching so closely, and under roasted beans do not make the grade.

If you would like to learn how to test for proper roasting of beans, just crack one of your roasted coffee beans open. A properly roasted coffee bean will be darker inside than outside. If a bean has not been properly roasted, the bean will be darker on the outside than on the outside since the whole process was rushed. Do this test yourself, and you will make sure you have properly roasted beans.

Buying A Great Coffee Machine

You rely on coffee to get your day started, depend on it to keep you going during the day, and love to finish your evening meal with a cup. However, you are stuck in a rut buying the same old brand from your supermarket, without giving much thought to what you really want from your coffee. If this sounds familiar you might want to consider spending a little time exploring the many types of coffee available today, and choosing a selection to suit your particular tastes.

Some useful ingredients for coffee tasting at home include a good supply of filtered water as tainted water can spoil the best coffee, a tray designed to take several small cups or bowls, some measuring spoons, and a variety of spoons. You will also need a burr grinder if you want to use whole coffee beans. It can be worthwhile trying different grades of fineness as well as different types of coffee to see which you prefer. However, you can buy different grinds to determine your favorite if you don't want to invest in a grinder.

When preparing the coffee, remember that the water should be just off the boil. Boiling water will scald your coffee beans ruining their flavor and aroma. One cup coffee makers or other types of quality coffee machine can ensure that the water is of exactly the right temperature. For tasting, however, you should simply mix the coffee grinds with the boiled water, and either filter after a couple of minutes, or spoon off a sample of coffee to try. You will need roughly two tablespoons of coffee to each six fluid ounces of water but you can vary this combination to achieve a stronger or weaker effect.

Before tasting you should breathe in the aroma of the coffee, a large percentage of the taste is actually in the smell. Make sure the coffee is not too hot when you take it in your mouth, and allow the liquid to run over your whole tongue, covering all your taste buds. Keep the coffee in your mouth for a few seconds before spitting into a container.

Given the different climates and soil types involved in producing coffee, as well as the variety of methods of preparation, it is not surprising that there are such variations in coffee types. Try coffees from a number of countries, in different parts of the world. Variations between African and South American coffees are staggering.

Learn about the profiles of the coffees you enjoy. What is the acidity? What kind of aroma does the coffee have? How bitter is the aftertaste? Is there a nutty flavor to the coffee? Is there a peppery taste, or perhaps a floral one? Try light and dark coffees, rich, smooth and sharp coffees to gain a real understanding of your own preferences.

Spending some time learning about the various coffees available and the particular types that appeal to your taste buds can make coffee drinking a real pleasure. Given the amount of coffee most people drink during their working week, it is surprising how few know very much about the drink. Coffee tasting can be a great way of entertaining friends, while learning a little about your likes and dislikes at the same time.

Can You Have Good Decaf Espresso?

When it comes to decaffeinated coffee it is pretty much a black and white choice. Most people drink either regular or decaf, and would never consider switching between, but how much difference in taste is there really? Many coffee lovers report the inferior taste of decaf, but is that just because it is something they are not used to, or is there really something in its production that affects the flavor?

A type of coffee plant was recently discovered that produces beans naturally low in caffeine, but until this finds its way into commercial production we will have to rely on more traditional methods of decaf production.

The most common treatment to remove caffeine from coffee beans is to soak them in hot water, or steam them to open the pores, and then rinse them in methylene chloride which bonds with the caffeine, and is washed away. So it may be the difference in taste of decaf is more to do with the remaining chemical in the bean than the actual absence of the bitter caffeine.

There is another method which reduces the amount of the chemical that the beans come into contact with. The beans are soaked for a long period in hot water, which induces the caffeine as well as much of the flavor in the bean to leak out into the water. The beans are removed, and methylene chloride added to bond with the caffeine. This is then filtered off and the beans are replaced in the water to reabsorb some

These methods are relatively inexpensive and so are favored by manufacturers, despite ongoing questions about how the final taste of the coffee is affected. There is another method which is more costly, and seems to have less impact on the taste.

This is known as the Swiss method, and it involves no chemical addition to the beans. The beans are soaked in hot water for a long period of time, and then the whole mixture is filtered through activated charcoal. This is similar to pure carbon and its molecular make up attracts the caffeine particles to bond with it during the filtering process. This is a more expensive process and so is generally used for superior decaf coffees.

If you feel you need to cut down on your caffeine intake, whether for health reasons, or just to get a good night's sleep, you don't necessarily have to switch to decaf. Just changing the type of coffee you drink can have an impact. Many darker roasts, such as Italian roast often used in Espresso, naturally have less caffeine because much of it has been burnt off during the roasting process. You can reduce the effects of caffeine without economizing on taste.

Of course it is a matter of personal choice which type of coffee you use in your espresso maker, but if you need to cut down on your caffeine intake there are options, and you do not have to settle for an inferior flavor if you do find that standard decaf produces this.

How To Make The Perfect Espresso

Surely one espresso maker is much like another, and it doesn't make a difference how much you spend on one right? Well that depends very much on what you expect from your espresso maker. There are an ever growing number of machines on the market and it may be hard to decide between them. In the coffee industry, buyers rely on word of mouth, trade press and the experiences of their colleagues to determine the best espresso machines to invest in, but if you are simply buying one for your own personal use, there are a few things you might want to consider.

Your main concern will be the coarseness of grind that the espresso maker requires. Some machines have built in grinders which are ideal but a little pricier. These are set to grind the beans to exactly the right consistency for your machine. If you already have a separate grinder, you will need to calibrate this to produce grinds that are the appropriate texture for your espresso maker. It may take you several; attempts to achieve the perfect grind, by which time your head will be spinning from espresso tasting.

If you are buying ready ground coffee, check which is the most suitable for your machine and buy a small amount of a couple of types to be sure to find a good one. Of course if you already have a favourite ready ground coffee, you can buy your espresso maker to match this.

Although espresso makers have an optimum thickness of grinds, a really good machine should be able to work with grains that are a little too coarse or fine. That is one of the benefits of investing in a really high quality machine. Poor quality espresso makers will become jammed with the wrong texture on grinds. However, you should note that using the wrong grinds for your machine can cause a less than perfect taste to your coffee; it might be a little bitter. This is because the water has to be more highly pressurized to get through the coffee and this will result in an inferior end result.

One further consideration when you are buying an espresso machine is the noise it makes. A really high quality machine should not make very much noise, and you should still be able to chat to your friends whilst making that perfect brew, and tell them what an excellent investment your espresso maker was.

Alternative Brews For Your Coffee Machines

A number of coffee loving nationalities, along with coffee snobs worldwide will let you believe that straight and black is the only way to consume this fashionable drink. All I can say is that they don't know what they are missing out on. The vast possibilities for coffee drinkers today means there is a different taste and combination for every possible mood and occasion.

We should start with coffee blends. Far from sticking to one bean to produce a single flavor, blenders invent fantastic combinations that can be a real treat to the palate. In Indonesia, Sumatran and Papua New Guinean beans are combined to produce a distinctive, rich brew. Sumatran beans are also combined with Columbian to create a dark roast with a slightly smoky taste.

Introducing flavoring to your coffee can improve even the blandest of roasts. To sweeten a bitter or acidic brew try almond, vanilla or cherry flavoring. Certain syrups produce seasonal style coffees, such as gingerbread, ideal around thanksgiving and Christmas. Melting chocolate into your coffee to create mocha has become very popular and the type of chocolate and coffee chosen can make a huge difference to the overall effect. The Yemeni roast, combined with dark chocolate, makes a really exotic blend, while a lighter effect can be achieved with an American roast and a little milk chocolate. Combining coffee with cocoa beans before you make the drink is another popular method for those coffee lovers with a sweet tooth.

If an alcoholic addition to your coffee is your preference, there are a wide variety of spirits and liqueurs to be used either as an addition or an accompaniment to your drink. A good whiskey can be combined with black coffee and brown sugar, and topped with cream to produce the perfect Irish coffee. Creamy liqueurs such as Baileys and Amarillo can be added to sweeten your drink. The Italian grappa is a popular accompaniment to an espresso, and can be drunk separately or added to the brew itself. Rum, brandy and amaretto can each be added to various coffee blends to give a heady effect.

Some of the more adventurous types of coffees available include frozen cappuccinos, perfect to give you that caffeine lift on a hot day, Macadamia and chocolate flavoring that upsets the assumption that a nutty taste is coffee shows poor quality, and mint, raspberry or coconut coffees, that don't taste much like coffee at all!

So with all the options to choose from, it is hard to see how the coffee snobs maintain their mantra that straight and black is the only way to go. Admittedly you will not be able to make many of these varieties with your one cup coffee makers, and they may not be available from the coffee machines in the office, but a little experimentation at home or in your local café can make coffee drinking a really pleasurable experience.

Coffee Ideas To Try In Your Kitchen

When you think of cocktails, your immediate image is probably of highly colored fruit juices and strong spirits, dressed with a sparkly umbrella and a piece of pineapple. It might surprise you to know about the vast range of coffee cocktails around, for those looking for a different sort of lift. With the advent of grind and brew coffee makers we can make the perfect cup of coffee right in our kitchen, now we just need something exciting to mix with it!

We will start with the very simple and innocent frappe, mostly found in Europe and South America it is made by mixing crushed ice, sugar milk and cold espresso, and is a popular drink during hot weather. The addition of one measure of brandy and another of crème de cacao makes a more exciting drink.

The antithesis of the simple frappe is the decadent Cappuccino Borgia. This consists of a mixture of orange juice, freshly peeled orange, a double dark espresso, milk, and chocolate ice cream. The sweetness of the ice cream is offset but the sharpness of the citrus fruit and the bitter taste of the coffee creating a fantastic overall taste.

Back to something lighter, and we could try a Calypso Cooler, straight from the Caribbean. A couple of properly ripe bananas and some coffee ice cream mixed with a cool strong filter coffee is the base. However, for a truly Caribbean experience, a measure of rum can five the Cooler the lift it requires.

For a filling alternative, we can look to the ancient world for a Caffee Zabaglone, or a more modern version found in New Orleans. The Caffee Zabaglone mixed marsala, sugar, egg yolks a little salt and a good strong Italian brew. This was all whisked and heated until thick. The New Orleans version incorporates a strong full bodied American roast with full cream, eggnog and bourbon, and is popular around Mardi Gras.

For a truly warming experience, the Scandinavians have concocted the Cardamom Caffee. Traditionally this spice is used in thick strong Turkish coffee, and it can give quite a kick to any hot drink. For the Cardamom Caffee, mix Cognac and Curacao, with sugar and a Cardamom pod. Heat briefly and then set alight with a match. Add a strong dark filter coffee and enjoy the results!

Make The Perfect Espresso

So coffee lovers the world over will have different ideas on how to make the perfect espresso, but the following method should produce a good quality cup.

The importance of good water should not be underestimated in making the ideal espresso. The water should be fresh, and should not have been left standing. It should be clean, so filter where necessary. The optimum temperature is just off the boil, at around two hundred and three degrees Fahrenheit.

Choose your coffee carefully. Pick an Arabica over the more common Robusta, which has more caffeine and less taste. An Arabica is a superior bean, and the best types are grown at an altitude of over three thousand feet. Unless you are going the whole hog and roasting the beans yourself, you should ensure you have fresh beans roasted in the past few days. You will be able to identify fresh beans from the smell.

When selecting your roast, it should be a dark, sweet one, such as French, Viennese or Italian. As you can see, the Europeans have the edge when it comes to good espresso roasts.

The beans should be ground in a burr grinder, which has cone shaped teeth on two plates, between which the beans are ground. The space between the plates determines how finely ground the coffee is, a sand-like consistency is ideal.

Try to ensure minimum exposure to the air as oxidation of the coffee reduces the quality and taste. The coffee may also absorb odors from the air which will give it a peculiar aroma and flavor.

A high quality and clean espresso maker is an advantage in making that perfect brew so it is worth investing in a good one that can easily be washed after use.

Once you have the ingredients together the espresso production process is simple. Switch on your espresso maker and run a cup of clean water through the machine, without coffee, just to warm it and ensure the system is dust free.

Add coffee grinds, and compress them slightly, as you might tobacco in a pipe, until they are just springy. Place the hopper securely into the espresso maker and start the process. Your perfect espresso should arrive a few seconds later.

For those that find straight espresso a little too much, you can combine a double shot with warmed and whisked organic milk to produce a cappuccino or latte. This can be topped with chocolate, nutmeg or cinnamon depending on your taste.

Try the Coffee Zabaglone for another timeless treat. You add ¼ cup dry Marsala, ¼ sugar, salt, 4 egg yolks and then wisk them all together and cook the mixture on the stove. Add some Italian roast to the mix and you have an amazing hangover cure and breakfast drink.

Jump to New Orleans for a 'Mardi Gras' by mixing ½ cup heavy cream, bourbon, eggnog and a extra hearty American roast. This should help you stay up and party all night long!

The Scandinavians, coffee lovers in their own right, use cardamom to make a delicious coffee drink called, Cardomom Kaffee. Make this by heating up a mixture of a teaspoon of sugar, two teaspoons of curacao, and 1/8 of cognac. 10 seconds in a microwave or on the stove should do and then light it on fire with a match. Add a half-cup of coffee and you have a great winter treat!

Why does coffee give us heartburn? Heartburn is caused by stomach acids leaking into the esophagus where they are not supposed to be! When the esophagus lining comes into contact by these stomach acids then the lining get irritates and this acid causes heartburn.

Caffeine is a main reason behind heartburn. Your body will produce more acid when you are drinking something caffeinated and this extra acid from your stomach will go into the lower esophageal sphincter. Coffee has loads of caffeine and makes heartburn even worse.

A new technology called, Hevla technology, may hold some relief for all of those who suffer from caffeine induced heartburn.

The Hevla process steams coffee beans at a high pressure and this removes caffeine without getting rid of the great taste and aroma. This can help people to enjoy coffee without the caffeine and without the heartburn.

Using the Hevla technique to remove the caffeine in coffee you still get the highest quality coffee and best flavor. In the world of science and health this is a great feat. Now we can enjoy coffee and be heartburn free.

Once this new Hevla coffee hits a supermarket near you than people will be able to resume their coffee habits without ever worrying about heartburn again. You will still get that great taste from your machine without the pain! You won't have to worry that you are sacrificing great taste for decaf. You'll know you are getting premium coffee that is safe for you to drink.

Organic Coffee: An Overview

Nothing beats a hot steaming cup of coffee to awaken the nerves and stimulate tired senses. While a cup of Joe may tempt relentlessly, many environmentally conscious people would reject the purchase of over-the-counter, mass produced coffee from your traditional store. For good reason: many of the manufacturing methods used to make non-organic coffee have been proven to damage the environment through toxins, pesticides, and fertilizers used throughout production.

In order for organic coffee to claim its title and have seals of approval throughout the States, it has to follow a set of guidelines established by the US Department of Agriculture that regulates organic production. Organic coffee must stray clear of synthetic pesticides and its farmers must have crop rotation systems in place to prevent soil nutrients from depleting along with sufficient pest control. Given the nature of the organic coffee production process, its market is steadily climbing in the States with total sales reaching close to 90 million in 2005, a nearly 50 percent jump from 2004. In addition, organic coffee is being sold by more specialty coffee firms than ever, a testament to its growing popularity.

Organic coffee continues to remain a premium product at extravagant prices. Currently, a 12 oz. bag of dark roasted shade grown fair trade organic coffee can climb upwards of $12. Light roasted organic coffee goes for about $3 less, depending on the store you're buying it from. Adding to organic coffee's exclusivity is the size of the world organic coffee market which remains mired at less than 1 percent in all of the major coffee consuming countries. Despite its status, this item continues to be diverse, offering organic coffee products that include coffee sodas, decaffeinated, caffeinated, and flavored coffees. All in all, remember that organic coffee is a safe alternative to the mass produced, environmentally unconscious coffees made today.

The Perfect cup of Coffee for your taste buds and eyes

If you're not familiar with Vacuum coffee makers then a written description of how they work may have you a little lost. How ever, to those that own or use vacuum coffee brewers you know what a great cup they make, and what a joy they are to watch.

If you're a fan of using a French Press to brew your coffee each day, then you'll love the coffee made in a Vacuum maker. It works on a similar principle of boiling water flowing over freshly ground coffee beans then filtering the grounds out of the water leaving behind a wonderful tasting and smelling cup of coffee.

There's something to be said when a paper filter isn't used with coffee grounds, it allows all the acids and aromas from the beans to transfer into the water and create a very special tasting cup of coffee. One that can't really be compared to what your regular drip coffee maker makes.

So how does a Vacuum coffee maker work?

Well unlike some of my friends who thought a vacuum coffee maker was a combo vacuum coffee brewing machine it's actually quite a small glass or sometimes plastic appliance. There are both electric and stove top models available (For a great electric or non electric vacuum coffee maker check out the Bodum Santos).

There are two compartments an upper and lower. The lower one has fresh water added to it, and the upper fresh coffee grounds. The two are connected with a plastic or glass tube which has a filter in the center. Once heat is applied to the lower area either via stove top or an electric element the water begins to boil. Once boiling that water travels up to the upper chamber where the coffee grounds are stored. The two then mix together and the brewing process begins.

It's really quite amazing to watch the water move up and spill over the coffee, it's a lot more interesting then watching the drips come from your regular old peculator. Now this is the real amazing part, after a short period of time the mixed coffee then beings to transfer back to the bottom chamber once all the water has boiled away. The coffee grounds are separated from the coffee via the filter that is in the tube connecting the two chambers.

Depending on the size of the holes in your filter and the coarseness of your coffee grounds you may get a bit of sediment in your coffee. Once all of the coffee has transferred to the lower chamber again you're done and ready to enjoy. Sounds like quite the process to brew a pot doesn't it? In real time all of this happens quite quickly, and it isn't any longer to make then what a French press would be.

If you're a real coffee enthusiast I highly recommend you either try out the coffee made in a vacuum maker, or consider purchasing one for your own kitchen. While it may not take the place on weekday mornings of your regular drip coffee maker, I'm sure it'll be the treat for weekends, and you won't be disappointed.

A Review of Tim Hortons Coffee

I was given the opportunity to try Tim Hortons coffee when I took a vacation in the Great White North about a month ago. You probably know that this franchise is pretty much a Canadian institution. Finding an adult in Canada who had never had Tim Hortons coffee before is the same as finding an adult who had never tried a McDonald's hamburger in the U.S. Anyway, I could see why all my Canadian friends raved about the place because I thoroughly enjoyed the brew at that chain. In the course of my two week stay in Canada, I became completely addicted to the stuff.

I know that I have to come up with a way to get the Tim Hortons coffee that I so badly craved, once I returned back home in the U.S. However, the numerous store locations in the United States are in far away states, like New York, Massachusetts, Maine, and Pennsylvania. I'm not going to drive hundreds of miles every time I wanted a cup of coffee, even though I love it very much. Of course, I won't give up on my quest that easily, even if I was disappointed at not having a store in my area.

In order to solve my dilemma, I decided to log onto the Internet and do a bit of research. I found out that other people also want to get Tim Hortons coffee outside of Canada. In fact, I discovered a couple of online retailers that ship fresh-ground or instant Tim Hortons coffee to nearly any destination in the world. It was worth every penny in my opinion, even though it was a bit pricey compared to other brands that I could have bought at my local grocery store.

I've been sharing the brew with all of my friends, now that I can get Tim Hortons coffee delivered right to my home. I am glad that they've come to love this special coffee just as much as I do. In fact, a few of them have even started ordering home deliveries of their own. They expressed that no other domestic brands even come close to the quality, freshness, and taste of Canada's most popular offering.

You should visit a franchise near you or order from an online retailer if you miss Tim Hortons coffee as much as I do or if you just want to see what all the fuss is about. Believe me when I say that you'll become a convert once you try this brand.

What Is Organic And Fairtrade Tea And Coffee?

The UK is known as a nation of tea drinkers, one Polish person once asked me if we drank tea at 3 oclock everyday as some sort of ritual! Most of us dont realise that this tea is often grown on tea plantations in the developing world where the crops are sprayed with many chemicals and pesticides and the workers that pick the leaves are not only exposed to this danger but are often paid a pittance of a wage as well.

Organic and Fairtrade tea, coffee and cocoa are growing in popularity as people realise the benefits of spending those extra pennies per box and the payback in both health and human terms.

Why buy organic tea, coffee or cocoa?

Consumers usually decide to buy because production is carried out using sustainable farming practices, specifically not allowing deforestation to occur as part of plantation farming techniques.

Some producers go down the Fairtrade route, which gives the consumer further altruistic benefit in terms of assurance that the workers on the tea or coffee plantations have been working under improved terms and conditions, giving them a better quality of life and reducing exploitation. You can now buy organic, Fairtrade tea which is not much more expensive then just organic tea. I buy Morrisons own branded organic, fairtrade tea bags as its cheaper than the branded products such as clipper teas.

What exactly is organic I hear you ask?

Tea or coffee qualifies as organic only when environment-friendly techniques are employed in its production. An organic unit should essentially be a self-sustaining one, designing the farm at the time of establishment of new organic tea or coffee plantation is crucial for optimum utilization of resources within the plantation itself.

In order to establish organic tea fields or coffee plantations, it is necessary to build up inherent nutrient levels and neutralise the chemical residues left in soils from past cultivation. This requires an interim period - called the conversion period. Based on the agro-ecological conditions, this period may vary from 3 to 5 years. If plantation is taken up before conversion period is over, chemical residues may show up in the product. These processing techniques are sufficient to make it highly unusual for any pesticides to be present in the end product.

Insect pest and disease management

Insect and disease management in organic farming systems rely on the inherent equilibrium in nature. This includes using natural enemies of pests to keep their numbers in check.

There are many varieties of organic herbal teas now available also. Some of these have the added benefit of possessing medicinal properties. For example, peppermint tea aids indigestion and chamomile can soothe and relax you.

Davinos Greeno works for the organic and ethical directories that lists 100s of Organic and Ethical Companies and we also have Organic Articles for you to read.

Gourmet Coffee – When Only The Best Will Do!

Do you remember not so long ago when there were only two choices of coffee available, either regular or decaf? Coffee drinking was pretty simple in those days. When you invited guests to your house the most you could offer them was a cup of black or white coffee.

Now days however, the world is a much bigger place offering a plethora of choice.

Coffee drinking has become a lot more sophisticated. Should you find yourself at your local coffee shop, you're sure to be confronted with an entire menu dedicated to a host of speciality flavors and blends that can be served either hot or cold.

Gourmet coffee has essentially come of age allowing those who like to indulge a wide array of choices of the finest tastes from all over the globe. As a rule gourmet coffee is generally more expensive than the regular types. However I am sure anyone who has tried some will agree it is well worth paying the bit extra for the uniquely enjoyable experience of tasting the different specialty blends. If you have never tried gourmet coffee, trust me you are really missing out on adult pleasures.

As times have changed so have people's tastes in coffee.

No doubt that is why coffee makers have become so popular with many people installing the machines in their kitchens so they can whip-up their favourite gourmet coffee in just minutes. But the old favorite coffee presses are still used everyday by loads of people just like me who adore their simplicity and easy, no fuss clean up and storage.

If you venture down to you local coffee house you are sure to gain an education of the number of ways coffee can be prepared. Gloria Jean's is one of my favourite coffee shops and some of their gourmet blends that might inspire you are butter toffee, creamy chocolate caramel, French vanilla supreme, Swiss chocolate almond, hazelnut and of course everyone's favourite Irish crème.

Coffee tasting can be a delightfully social experience and believe me you will never run out of varieties to try when as part of the selection there are coffees like amaretto, cookies and cream, chocolate macadamia and mudslide, just to name a few.

Today via the internet there is a huge variety of coffees available. If you are willing to be a bit adventurous I am sure you will find a gourmet brew that will appeal to your taste buds.

Sites are being set up as online coffee shops to sell the very best quality premium coffee blends from all around the world. Africa, South America, Italy, France and even New Orleans are just some of the places where these gourmet coffees originate.

If you are trying to find a great gift for that difficult to buy for relative or friend then why not put together a gift basket of speciality quality organic coffees. I am sure they will be thrilled – you can't beat the taste sensation of a top gourmet brew.

Whether you're the type of person who buys presents months in advance or you're a last-minute shopper, there's probably someone on your list who you're having trouble shopping for. Rather than succumbing to gift-giving paralysis, smart shoppers will take advantage of the gourmet coffee and tea trend.

A Nation of Coffee Lovers

Millions of people love the delicious taste of a gourmet brew and wouldn't dream of going through the day without a single cup of coffee. According to a study by the National Coffee Association of U.S.A., Inc., more than 32-million adults in the US admitted to drinking gourmet coffee on a daily basis in 2005.

With numbers like that, you can be sure that you know more than a few fans of fresh brewed coffee and tea. Next time you're faced with a gift buying opportunity, consider presenting that special someone with a single cup coffee maker. These handy brewers, such as the popular Keurig coffee maker, make stylish and practical gifts.

The Perfect Gift for Busy People

Single cup coffee makers are fantastic for people with busy lives. These compact machines brew delicious gourmet drinks in less than a minute. Most models are compatible with coffee pods (also known as "K-cups"), which are small packages of grounds that can be inserted directly into the machine. The pods lock in the freshness and flavor of the gourmet coffee for a high quality cup of your favorite brew every time.

Many popular coffee brands, including Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Celestial Seasonings, have jumped on the single cup coffee maker bandwagon. Some of their most popular flavored selections are now available for use as coffee pods or K-cups. Keurig alone offers over 130 coffee, tea and hot cocoa varieties from 12 different gourmet partners.

Extra Special Gift Ideas

If you really want to give a special gift, try making a coffee-themed gift basket to go with the single cup coffee machine. Just imagine how wonderful would it be to open a beautiful package filled with a variety pack of gourmet coffee pods, a travel mug, chocolates and other treats that go well with coffee or tea. The lucky recipient will think of you each time he or she enjoys a delicious cup of a favorite brew.

Do you know someone who doesn't have a lot of time in the morning because he or she has to get the kids off to school? That person is sure to appreciate the fast brewing time and minimal mess of a single cup coffee maker. Clean up is simple as there are no grinds to mop up or filters to throw away. Just remove the used coffee pod and you're ready to start anew.

Know a college student who loves a hot cup of tea, coffee or cocoa before class or as a pick-me-up during finals week? Send that studious someone a "coffee break" care package! The sleek looks and convenient size of a single cup coffee maker make it a perfect fit for any dorm room.

Perhaps you're looking to reward your coworkers. Instead of giving pats on the back or another tin of cookies, be the office hero and present the entire team with a single cup coffee maker. You'll put a smile on their faces every time someone fills his or her cup.

Or, you can just treat yourself. Whether you keep a single cup coffee maker at home or on your desk at work, the perks are immense. Pop your favorite brand and flavor of coffee or tea into the single cup coffee maker and enjoy the experience of a hot, gourmet drink brewed in as little as 30-seconds. Gift giving has never tasted so good.

Espresso - What Exactly is It

Whether it is java, lattes, cappuccino, espresso or just a plain old cup of Joe - coffee is America's preferred method of energy boost. With that said, there's nothing like the first double espresso in the morning to clear the cobwebs from our heads so we can face the day. But what is espresso? What makes it different from any other coffee?

Espresso originated in Italy. A term often associated with espresso is "barista," which is a professional operator of an espresso machine, those skilled in making premium espresso. The skill of a barista is comparable to the finest artisan baker. Most coffee drinks start with espresso, which is just coffee that is brewed a certain way. Espresso is prepared by forcing hot water under high pressure through finely ground coffee.

The secret to good espresso is the extraction time, volume, and golden creama which is a thick light brown layer of frothed coffee oils that float on top of a properly extracted espresso. By timing the brewing process just right, the flavorful and aromatic oils of the coffee are extracted, and not the bitter components. The result is a strong flavored but not bitter shot of coffee that is concentrated.

One difference between drip coffee and espresso is that espresso is measured in shots and drip coffee is measured in cups. Another difference is the texture of the grind – drip coffee uses a courser grind while espresso machines need a very fine grind.

Espresso blends in southern Italy are usually roasted into the French Roast stage where almost all of the beans will be about one shade removed from black and oils will start emerging from some beans.

To enjoy your own espresso at home, all you have to do is purchase a personal espresso machine and wholesale gourmet beans. No longer will you have to rely on that drive-through teenager who may or may not use the old espresso grounds already in the coffee machine. With your own espresso machine you will enjoy the finest cup of espresso every time.

An espresso machine is used to yield the traditional Italian coffee brew called "espresso." If you use an espresso machine you use a fine grind. To get an espresso grind with a blade grinder, you have to hold the grind button for a certain number of seconds.

When brewing espresso, the burr coffee grinder is preferred over the blade grinder. The burr grinder supplies uniformly ground coffee that allows for an easier wetting and packing of coffee grounds in the espresso machine. These grounds are perfect for the majority of home pump espresso makers.

When purchasing coffee for your espresso machine, whether it is in a coffee house or in a supermarket, you want to get 100% Arabica - except for espresso blends, which may be a combination of both Arabica and robusta. Arabica beans are normally rich in flavor - while robusta beans have more caffeine, less flavor and are cheaper to make.

Cyprus, Kapparis The Hidden Gem

Cyprus is without a doubt a beautiful Island paradise teeming with natural beauty and a rich cultural heritage. For most tourist however the only parts of Cyprus they get to visit are the major holiday resorts and places that the organized tours visit. As you may imagine there is so much more to this lovely country and you will certainly benefit from a scratch below the surface. Cyprus has had a turbulent history dating back to ancient times right up until the 1970s. In fact the country remains divided North from South even as I write this article.

For those who are prepared to look a little further than the main coastal resorts of North West Cyprus there are some real gems to be found. For instance only a few will have ever heard of the village of Kapparis. This small resort about 5K North of the busy sea side resort of Protaras nestles up against the border with Northern Cyprus. The main street through this little town was once the main coastal road to Famagusta. Famagusta now a "ghost town" lies in crumbling dereliction just across the border in the Turkish occupied North. Until the the Invasion in 1976 the town was the principle port and possibly the most prestigious holiday resort in the Mediterranean. With its miles of white sand and safe beaches Famagusta was the jewel in the crown of Cyprus.

All the towns and villages from Kapparis down as far as Ayia Napa are still known as the Famagusta area or Municipality or Famagusta and many Greek Cypriots that fled in the conflict still consider themselves refugees. Lots of the shops and businesses around the area will proudly display large photographs of the homes or premises they were forced to leave behind. Most of these people left with only what they were able to carry and the pain of loss has not diminished over time. When you speak to some of these people about the flight from Northern Cyprus you can't help but feel their sense of loss and the mention of Famagusta still breaks their hearts to this day. Many still dream of a time when they will be able to reclaim the homes they have lost. Homes where families had lived for generations, past down Farther to Son in the traditional Greek way.

A few minutes in land is the bustling town of Paralimini with it's beautiful square and main church. The square is a hive of activity with both trendy cafe's and traditional Cypriot Taverna's where the locals spend the warm afternoons socializing over a Cyprus coffee.

There are lots of shops if you prefer satisfying your need for retail therapy or you can just relax in the square and take in the atmosphere. Remember that Wednesday is half day closing so don't arrive there on that day expecting anywhere to be open apart from the bars and cafes.

Kapparis itself has grown into a lovely little resort over the past few years due to the ongoing development of the Island. Many of the new homes that have been built around the village are now permanent homes for the English who love to retire to Cyprus. With the long summers and low cost of living the Island is becoming a top destination for retirees from all over Europe. The irony is that although one of the smaller and lesser known resorts Kapparis is becoming the center of activity in the Famagusta area during the winter months too. In fact there are more shops and restaurants staying open right through the year in Kapparis than in all the other resorts put together.

If Kapparis sounds like the kind of place you would wish to spend your Cyprus holidays there is plenty of accommodation available. With the rapid growth in the Cyprus property market you will have no problems finding a luxury villa or apartment to rent. There are also some nice hotels in the village and no shortage of bars and restaurants to enjoy. The beach is only about 3 minutes walk from the main street and there is plenty to entertain the whole family so Enjoy Cyprus!

Coffee reduce the risk of chronic liver disease

A study published recently in the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) magazine Gastroenterology found out that people at high risk for liver disease might be able to reduce their risk for rising chronic liver disease significantly by way of drinking more than two cups of coffee daily. This preventative effect was mainly seen in people at higher risk for liver disease due to high intake of alcohol, being overweight or people with diabetes or people with iron overload. This purpose of study was to take a forthcoming look at the rapport between coffee consumption and chronic liver disease in the universal U.S. population.

In this study population included 9,859 participants whose coffee intake was evaluated and who were also followed for a median of 19 years. In this analysis, coffee intake was measured by way of cups, ranging from 0 to 16 cups per day with an average of two cups per day. This showed that those who consumed more than two cups of coffee per day have less chances of chronic liver disease.

Over the last few years, there has actually been a rising body of proof that coffee decreases the risk of eminent liver enzymes, cirrhosis and with liver cancer. This study provides support for a caring effect of coffee on the chronic liver disease and also on cirrhosis, and extends these findings to the general U.S. population. However, the study does not provide aggregate evidence that coffee protect against chronic liver disease from individual causes, such as fatty liver disease or may be with viral hepatitis.

Espresso Machine Accessories to Enhance your Coffee Enjoyment

Once you have delved into the world of fine coffee deeply enough to own your own espresso machine, there will come a time when you will begin to shop for espresso machine accessories. These little extras that you can use with your espresso maker can enhance the enjoyment of your coffee as well as making your hobby as an amateur barista more fun and interesting.

The first rule of thumb that you should keep in mind when shopping for espresso machine accessories is that the best accessories to select are those that are specifically designed to go with your espresso machine. Most manufacturers will provide a variety of espresso machine accessories to go with the machines that they offer. By selecting an accessory by the same company as your machine, you are guaranteed compatibility between the two pieces.

Different Accessories to Consider

If you are going to be serving your espresso in style, cups and demitasse stirrers will be a must as a part of your espresso machine accessories. A frothing pitcher is one of the first espresso machine accessories that you should consider if you are interested in serving up any types of coffee drinks beside straight espresso. Cappuccinos and lattes require a certain amount of steamed or frothed milk, and a frothing pitcher will guarantee that your milk is steamed properly before adding it to your coffee. You can also purchase a frothing thermometer to ensure that your steamed milk is the proper temperature every single time, and a timer to assist you with the process.

Since the tamper that comes with many machines is often plastic, it may not hold up as long as you would like. You can include a high-quality tamper with your espresso machine accessories to make your brewing time easier. It is also a good idea to purchase a shot glass or a brewing pitcher for brewing your coffee into, rather than putting your shots directly into your mug. Finally, you will need a good quality grinder to produce fresh beans for your brewing pleasure.

There are few things that are more satisfying than a home-brewed cup of espresso made just the way you like it. With a high-quality espresso maker and a selection of espresso machine accessories, you can enjoy that cup of java from the comfort of your home any time of the day or night.

Do You Have It? Coffee Bad Breath. Find Out More…. Now!

Bad breath would have to be the most common personal hygiene condition that all of us fail at one time or another. Let's face it if a friend or someone in our family, or even a work colleague has it, we certainly take a step back out of their personal space quick smart….don't we?

Of course it isn't news that a daily routine of brushing and flossing our teeth after we eat is an effective treatment against this type of offence. However for some people like me who are constantly on the go, carrying out this simple mouth cleaning treatment throughout the day isn't always possible. Personally I carry a little box of breath mints everywhere I go because in my role as a career coach I work up pretty darn close and personal with the public.

Having a breath problem is not something I can afford to have when, as part of my job, I am leaning over people critiquing their resumes and covering letters.

Maintaining a high standard of personal hygiene and grooming is of utmost importance if I am to set a positive example for the job seekers to follow as an effective means of increasing their chances of landing employment. Like clean underwear a fresh breath is something we should never leave home without.

Some years back I went to visit a new dental clinic to have a tooth filled. On the day I remember being horrified when the dentist accused me of being a smoker because the brown stains on my teeth were so bad. Needless to say the poor fellow copped a mouthful as I told him in no uncertain terms that as the daughter of one of the original founders of the national anti-smoking campaign, I had never dared to take up smoking.

Once he realised he had made a mistake in diagnosing what was causing my bad mouth he then went on to ask about my diet. At the time I didn't understand why he seemed so interested in knowing what foods went into my mouth as I had already told him I didn't eat anything with sugar in it and that I used mouthwash twice a day to kill any bacteria.

When he didn't get anywhere with picking on my dietary habits he went on to quiz me about how many cups of coffee I was drinking a day. Shamefully I confessed to indulging in six or more a day of my favorite brew. 'Your breath must be really bad in the morning.' he exclaimed. Coffee he insisted was up there with garlic and onions as one of the major causes of halitosis which, just in case you didn't know, is the technical term for bad breath.

So, if your coffee drinking habits are at the higher end of the scale like mine, then be mindful that it may be causing you to have bad breath.

Whole Bean Coffee - A Complete Review.

If you are a selective coffee drinker like myself, then most likely already know that whole bean coffee is definitely the way to go. Whole bean coffee stays fresh much longer, and if you brew it right after grinding it you get a flavor you simply can't get from pre-ground coffee that's been sitting around for a short time. Even only mediocre whole bean coffee brands taste pretty good if brewed right after grinding.

One can find some of the best whole bean coffee in Costa Rica. As an area well-known for its coffee, I was keen to try some genuine Costa Rican brews during my visit there last year and I was totally blown away when I did. Despite the fact that I wanted to make the experience last as long as possible, I obviously carried as much coffee back with me as I could fit in my suit case. Knowing for a fact that the freshness is much better preserved when the beans are yet to be ground, I only brought back whole bean coffee to make it last longer. When I got home, I quickly put three of the four bags I had bought into the freezer, and left the other out for immediate use. Whenever I crushed that whole bean coffee it transported me right back to Costa Rica, and I was in a coffee-drinkers haven for the next couple of months. It's a good thing I didn't bring back already ground coffee; it would have lost a lot of its unique flavor.

At the same time the problem with whole bean coffee is that you have to grind it, which means you need to buy a coffee grinder. Moreover, coffee grinders can be a pain to clean, and it's just an extra step you have to take before enjoying your coffee. If the flavor isn't really that important to you, and/or you are running out of time or patience, whole bean coffee probably won't appeal to you that much. The majority coffee drinkers I know don't even have a coffee grinder; scooping out coffee 'powder' into a machine and pushing a button is the extent of their coffee making experience. Of course, there is something nice about just being able to add some already ground coffee in a machine and having a pot brewed in just a couple of minutes with not much effort. For this reason, I usually keep both whole bean coffee and already ground coffee on hand. For times when I'm in a rush, I use the ground coffee, and if I've got time to relax I'll grind up some fresh whole bean coffee to savor its taste.

One day trip to Singapore

Last week I went to Singapore just to open a bank account. I took a bus right after work and departure to Singapore at night. It took the bus about 8 hours to reach Singapore. It was about 5AM in the morning when I reach there. As it was too early, most of the shops are still close. The only place that I can think of is MacDonald. So, I just have my breakfast and hand out there until the bank opens up.

People at Singapore really makes Christmas a very big event. Almost everybody are preparing for Christmas. They are shopping for presents, Christmas decorations and postcards. Conversation about what they going to do in Christmas holidays can be heard as I'm sitting there enjoying my coffee.

After finish my business here with the bank in Singapore, I just don't have anything else to do. It's a one day trip, so I didn't plan to go any where. I still got about 4 hours to go before my trip back home. So I walk into Star Buck after I had my lunch. There are a few things that I notice that makes me feel comfortable and relax here. After the long hour travel and not having enough sleeps, I'm just almost up to my limit. Lucky that I'm able to find this coffee shop. The shop was playing soft Christmas song as I got myself a cappuccino latte. Find a nice spot to sit to check on my e-mails and enjoy my latte. The shop is equipped with the state of the art audio system – BOSE satellite system. Now that's my choice of the audio system. The coffee is nice as usual, it' Star Buck you know what I mean. What actually caught my attention is the service that the waitress provided. A worm well come at the entrance and greets with what your mother will say to you when you back home. They even bring me a cup of worm water along with a cookie. Now that's the thing that they done to be better then all other competitors. There are so many famous coffee chop franchises and it is not easy to maintain the business. Everybody will be given the same thing when you purchase the franchise. That is why to become better then others, you'll have to work on the services provided.

I'm able to spend my time comfortable in the coffee shop before I get on my bus. Before I walk out of the coffee shop, I was given a small Christmas present from the waitress. With a smile in their face, it's not "Good Bye", it's "Merry Christmas and please come again" that's accompany me back home.

It's been around 1 year that I have been having coffee here at Toast&Egg. Surfing the net while having a nice cup of coffee after work almost everyday. And it all starts from here......

How To Get Your Hands On The Best Espresso Coffee Of All.

To get to the great flavour of Espresso that is enjoyed the world over it all starts with a top quality bean.

When you settle back with an espresso coffee in hand, naturally you want to be drinking the best. For that to happen, the quality of the coffee bean needs to be at its peak. I am sure it is common knowledge that the biggest percentage of all commercial coffee is grown in nice neat rows on large coffee plantations around the world. But if you are in the know you will soon come to realise that all coffee is not equal. Its flavour depends very much on where and how it is grown.

The search for better flavored Espresso Coffee has spanned several centuries.

But for those who are just out to have their first bleary-eyed cup for the day, most will not be concerned as to whether they are drinking shade grown espresso coffee or not. However once they wake up a bit it might be quite astonishing to find out that there are over 800 active substances in one cup of coffee with each and every one of them impacting on the flavor.

That's why Arabian coffee tastes different from Columbian coffeee, which in turn tastes different to Kona coffee. Despite where it is grown espresso coffee always has a full, dark flavour which makes it unique. For gourmet coffee drinks such as the cappuccino and latte, espresso is always the base, so it has to have that strong depth of flavor to meld in with the other ingredients like milk and sugar.

With shade-grown coffee trees the berries mature more slowly than on those grown out in the open sun. What this means is the crop is smaller in volume and comes on later, but the flavor is richer and mellower. These two attributes combine to produce the perfect bean for making espresso coffee. It is a fact that sun-ripened cherries can be bitter and sharp compared to shade-grown cherries.

Besides the fact that shade-grown coffee tastes better, there are some highly significant environmental reasons to choose this type of coffee over others. You see, most of the land cleared for coffee plantations was originally tropical forest.

Another good reason to seek out shade grown espresso coffee is that it's usually organically grown. It is just one small but deliberate way you can do your bit for the future of our world while enjoying a cup of espresso.

So if you want to take your espresso making to new heights, then like me you should switch to buying only organic espresso coffee beans. The experience will be well worth the effort to be rewarded with the best cup of koffee your money can buy. In addition you will gain the satisfaction of knowing you are helping the environment as well as a host of well deserving Columbian farmers to manage their land in a sustainable manner and provide for their families.

What a great reason to enjoy a good cup of espresso!

You Must Work Hard To Be Rich-myth Or Truth?

'One of the most common myths about getting rich or achieving financial success is that working hard is the key to create wealth,' declared Jamie McIntyre. Jamie is a very much sought after personal development coach and has traveled all over the world meeting and learning from some of the best teachers in this world including the, Anthony Robbins, General Norman Schwarzkopf and Robert Kiyosaki.

He further insisted that, 'working hard and making money have nothing in common, I repeat, nothing to do with each other in this modern time.' Why is this man making such very powerful but controversial statements? Well, he backed up his statements with the following explanation. He uses his dad, a farmer as an example.

His father started off with nothing but is a millionaire now. This man, like most framers, believes that true hard work is the key to success and that was how he became a millionaire. He believed that this is the truth to wealth creation.

Jamie explained to his dad that hard work did not guarantee or actually play a major role in his dad's wealth. In fact it is a myth. His dad is a wealthy today because of the appreciation of value on his farm land property. The farm is now worth more that a million bucks when his bought it decades ago at a mere $50,000 dollars. Despite the fact that his dad was truly working hard on the farm for many years, this did not make the farmer wealthy. Income from the farm has actually dipped badly and the man would never save a million dollars from his farm's income even if he worked hard on it for several lifetimes.

His father's wealth was created by buying the farmland property at a low price and the increasing value of the land over a period of time. Anyone who have read Robert Kiyosaki's 'Rich Dad Poor Dad'book will find this theory familiar.

His father's wealth was amassed even when he was sleeping and almost without any effort at all. It is true that good work ethic and some hard work in the beginning helped but the most important feature was the investing of his money on the property and letting his money work for him.

Then Jamie went on to use his mother as another example. His mother had always wanted to open a coffee shop. She did not realize that many years later, she was offered to buy the entire building in which the coffee shop was located.

However she did not buy it because she had already borrowed a lot of money for the coffee shop business and did not like the idea of borrowing anymore money. She was being mistakenly prudent.

She worked very hard for many many years, often not paying herself a salary (another big mistake, as another rule for wealth creation is to always pay yourself first). She often worked hard to pay the shop's rental. She was working real hard but with a miserable return for the investment and labor.

You see,if she only she had borrowed another $100,000 for the building, she could have:-

a) Charged her coffee shop business a higher rent since the money still comes back to her. Even if her business only managed to pay the rent, it could be used to return the borrowed money.

b) The building would appreciate in value over time making her a lot of money without working and plus her charging a higher rental, it automatically make the building even more valuable.

c) She can sell away her coffee shop business and kept the building profiting from the sale of her business and then have the new tenants paying her rentals for the shop. Now she need not work to have a steady flow of passive income.

d) If she still wants to work, she could work part time for the new owner and then picking up another income stream. The truth is that so many streams of passive income now, his mother could be rich without working hard.

So,in order to be rich you must work hard,is a truth or a myth? Find out for yourself as Jamie is giving away his free financial wealth planning ebook at my blog below.

Making some extra money with your digital photos

Are you an amateur photographer? Do you enjoy taking digital photos? Do you have good quality digital photos to share with others? You can do that and also make some extra money from it. This article will show you how you can enjoy sharing your photography work and also get some cash at the same time.

This article is not about turning you into a professional photographer or about making your digital photos your main source of income. It will show you how you can share your digital photos with others and also make some extra cash at the same time. This money should be considered as extra income – usually a good source of cash to invest back into your digital photography hobby – maybe to buy a new camera, lenses, batteries or anything else that you need.

Photo stock websites: Photo stock websites are becoming more and more popular. Photo stock sites provide a market place for photographers to show off their work while others can view that work and buy it for a price usually set by the photographers. Some photo stock websites allow you to define the exact rights that you grant to the buyer so you can better protect your work. When users buy your digital photos you get a commission out of that money. There are many flavors of photo stock websites examples of two are: and

Your own photo gallery site: Putting a website together is relatively easy using some free commercial tools. For example you can easily set a photo album web site using tools from Yahoo. On your website you can allow users to browse and download full resolution digital photos for free or you can sell the high resolution versions of the digital photos. Implementing a shopping cart and collecting money is easily done using checkout tools from companies like PayPal, Yahoo and Google. Another option is to make money by placing advertisement on your site for example by using Google Adsense. Advertisement however will only generate noticeable revenues if you can attract a high number of visitors to your site. If your digital photos are unique and interesting you might be able to do just that. Another option is to create a dedicated Blog website – or to add a Blog to your digital photos website. You can easily do that with tools such as Blogger and Typepad. In the Blog you can present your digital photos and also write some interesting descriptions of how you took them, what is unique about them and anything else that might trigger the visitors' interest. Tell your friends and family about your site and post information about it in forums and chat boards.

Work for hire: This is a more conservative and traditional option. You can offer your photography services by posting ads in local classifieds website or newspaper. If you have your own site you can also offer your services through that site or add a link to the site on your ads to allow potential customers to view your work. Make sure that you are candid and up front with your potential customers about what you do, your work and your experience. They should understand that you are an amateur photographer and view your work to decide if you are a good fit for their needs. To get a sense of how much to charge contact other local photographers and get quotes for their services. If you have never done photography for hire before it is a good advice to start with jobs that are not very important to the clients and that can be done again if the results are not satisfactory. For example shooting digital photos of a wedding is probably not a good idea to start with. Taking digital photos of someone's car is a better option.

Coffee shops and galleries: It became trendy for coffee shops to hang local photographers or artists work on their walls. This is a win-win offering for them – they get free decoration for the shop and also allow customer to buy work that they like. The coffee shop gets a commission of each sale. Although this option requires more work and upfront financial investment it can be a lot of fun and a good way to connect with the local community. Walk around and find a few coffee shops or galleries that you would like to have your work at. Print and frame a few of your best photos and go back to those shops. Show your work and convince them to showcase it. It is best to start with just a few prints to minimize the risk.

These were just a few options to make some cash from your digital photos. There are other options and with some creativity you can find your own original ones. One thing to remember though is to make sure that you have the rights to sell your photos and that you are legally covered when showcasing them, selling them or working for hire taking photos for others. For example copyright laws change from state to state and country to country and you should make sure you have the rights for your digital photos.

A visit to Holland

Holland is small-scale in size with big in events, attractions and activities! From exciting exhibitions to invigorating cycle routes. From de luxe hotel accommodations to wonderful flower shows.

Holland is small-scale in size with big in events, attractions and activities! From exciting exhibitions to invigorating cycle routes. From de luxe hotel accommodations to wonderful flower shows.

The Netherlands is typically referred to by the name Holland. This is not terminologically accurate., since the provinces of North & South Holland in the western Netherlands are just 2 of the country's twelve provinces.

One of the main characteristics of the Dutch culture is the bluntness. Their proverbial bluntless is not to everybody's taste. The Dutch are as well so committed to equality, compromise and avoiding dispute that they have produced a labyrinth of rules and ordinances from which one there is no easy exit.

Likewise the Dutch are open for new ideas & are very tolerant. Dutch compulsion with equality & keeping everything "normal" is reflected in one of the many famous Dutch sayings which one says: "Doe maar gewoon, dan doe je al gek genoeg" (Behave ordinarily, that's mad enough).

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is mentioned for many great museums, admitting the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum, Rembrandt House Museum, & its world-class symphonic music orchestra, the Concertgebouworkest, whose home base is the Concertgebouw. The Van Gogh Museum houses the greatest collection of Van Gogh's paintings and drawings in the world. An unlikely tourist treat is the moving story of Anne Frank at the Anne Frank House.

Amsterdam is likewise famous for its red-light district, de Wallen. Prostitution is legal in the Holland. The red-light district is situated in the centre of the city along major canals and is clearly marked on maps.

Centred around the Wallen, but likewise elsewhere in the town, coffee shops sell high quality cannabis (marijuana) products. This is not completely legal but is tolerated when small quantities of the drug are involved.

Overview of Traditional Turkish Cuisine for Prospective Travelers

Due to the great extent of the Ottoman Empire reaching from Europe to Africa and Middle East until a century ago, the traditional cuisine today still carries a touch of both the western and eastern cuisines. Most of the traditional food can be classified as Mediterranean and some as Middle Eastern. The Turkish cuisine today is considered to be one of the diverse cuisines in the world of culinary.

Breakfast:

If you are staying in a hotel that is serving traditional Turkish breakfast, you can expect to be served feta cheese, sliced tomatoes, green and black olives, sour cherry and strawberry jam, scrambled eggs, meat salami, soujuk (a kind of pepperoni), fresh fruits, honey and yogurt. Besides these you will be served with many types of white bread and croissant type pastries. Turks accept the breakfast to the king of meals and they choose to treat their guests like champs. You will leave your hotel ready to take a long walk with enough energy only from the breakfast you just had.

Other Traditional Food:

Kebabs are very popular throughout the country although there are various ways it can be served. Yogurt kebab is very popular since Turks usually tend to mix any kind of food with yogurt, some examples include rice or pasta. "Iskender Kebab" which originated around Bursa also includes yogurt but it is mostly made up of thinly sliced gyro served over cubicles of pide (white bread) topped with tomato sauce and has the yogurt served on the side of the plate. "Manti" is another Turkish dish that is being served with yogurt; it is more a kind of tortellini filled with meat. "Doner" is the famous 'gyro' which is usually lamp meat cut into very thin slices… The infamous shish kebab would be the cubicles of meat and other vegetables on a skewer and again the favorite choice of meat of locals happens to be "lamb meat". Chicken is another but a healthier option that can be served the same way as these meat kebabs.

Since the country is covered by water on three sides, seafood is a major part of the traditional cuisine. Most popular seafood include shrimp, calamari or fishes such as Lufer (bluefish), palamut (bonito), levrek (seabass), kalkan (turbot), kefal (grey mullet) or hamsi which is the favorite from the Black Sea region. In Istanbul seaside. it is possible can run into street vendors that sell grilled fish in white bread just like a sandwich. All traditional dishes can be expected to be served with spices such as garlic, cumin, crushed red peppers, oregano or mint. Salad dressings are usually a combination of fresh squeezed lemon juice and vegetable oil.

Tea and coffee are widely consumed, especially after and between meals. Turkish coffee is muddy on the bottom and is very strong. It is served in traditional cups which are shorter and smaller than usual mugs and they all have little handles. Some popular deserts include baklava which is a pastry that has either nuts or pistachio mixed in it. Turkish Delight (lokums) also are usually made up of rose water and are covered with sugar. They usually include crushed nuts in them.

Food throughout the country is usually prepared with the utmost care and is very clean. Most of the traditional food is prepared with more attention given to taste rather than nutrition and some dieticians may not classify them as healthy considering today's diet standards since most of them contain a lot of fats or carbs.

Some samples of Mezes (tapas):

Traditional mezes include but are not limited to:

Humus: mashed chickpeas and tahini spread. A traditional Middle Eastern tapas.

Eggplant Salad: Grilled eggplant puree seasoned with garlic lemon and olive oil

Cacik: thick yogurt and cucumber seasoned with garlic and fresh dill

Yaprak Sarma: hand rolled grape leaves stuffed with pine nuts, rice and herbs

Imam Bayildi (Stuffed Eggplant): Baby eggplant halves stuffed with fresh tomatoes, parsley and spices

Soslu Patlican (Eggplants with sauce): cubes of eggplant baked with olive oil and garnish with tomatoes and peppers

Babaganush: Smoked eggplant puree, olive oil, lemon juice and some garlic.

Stuffed Grape Leaves: Grape leaves stuffed with rice, topped with olive oil and sometimes meat. Lebne: Thick homemade yogurt with walnut garlic and dill.

Tarama: Red caviar spread, blended with olive oil and lemon juice

Traditional Drinks:

Raki is the Turkish neighbor of Greek Ouzo which is made up of aniseed and various grapes. It is a transparent drink that turns into white when mixed with water or ice. However, the locals prefer to drink it mixed with just a little of water and ice in a thin and tall glass followed by a second similar glass filled only with water. Alcoholic drinks are widely available although Turkey is a country where the majority of the population is Muslim and the religion prohibits consumption of alcoholic beverages. However, the country is secular and the consumption is in high volumes. It is not considered a wrongdoing for those who choose to drink. Raki is the most popular drink that accompanies seafood; just like what white wine is to seafood or red wine is to red meat in the western countries. The most popular local bear is Efes which is very similar to the traditional American bears and other imported bears such as Budweiser or Corona are widely available.
